A Wellness visit (sometimes referred to as a Wellness Physical or Wellness Exam) is a comprehensive visit that focuses on prevention but also involves a thorough review of acute and chronic problems. This type of visit is longer than a regular Office Visit because it involves a comprehensive review of your medical history and current medical problems, measurements of your height, weight, BMI, body fat percent, and blood pressure, and a complete physical exam. We discuss appropriate screening tests and make recommendations for your overall good health.
For women, Pap smears and breast exams are done, if needed, at this visit. Pap smears and breast exams can be also scheduled without doing a Wellness if desired. The lab portion of the Pap test is an additional cost. See labs.)
Anyone with chronic medical problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, hypothyroidism, etc. needs to have a Wellness as a new patient and at least once a year. This is the best way to review your chronic conditions and to discuss disease prevention.
However, you don't need to have a chronic illness to have a Wellness Visit. A Wellness Visit is appropriate for anyone wanting to do a comprehensive review of his health. We can also address acute problems, including illnesses, at Wellness visits.
Labs and other tests are at additional cost.
Don't want a full Wellness? Consider a low-cost Health Screen instead.
