TB testing

It is often a requirement of certain school programs, adoption agencies, and employers to be screened for possible exposure to tuberculosis (TB).  It can also be done if a person had possible exposure to someone with tuberculosis.  This screening can be done in our clinic.

Quantiferon TB Gold test  (interferon gamma release assay)

This test, called Quantiferon TB Gold test, requires only a blood draw, so there is no need to return to the clinic to have the test read. (This test is also known as interferon gamma release assay (IGRA).)  It can be used in place of the PPD test (described above).  It can also be used in those who have had the BCG vaccine.  See the price here.

A negative test needs no further evaluation.  In the case of a positive test, we will discuss in detail what should be done.

Screening for exposure to tuberculosis can also be done using a skin test (PPD).  At this time, we do not offer this test in our clnic.  However, the blood test above can be done instead of PPD.
